ASA 101, 103, 104 Live Aboard School
Prerequisite: Basic Sailing (ASA 101) or equivalent experience.
Not required but recommended
This class is fast paced. The more boating experience you have prior to the class the more you will get out of the training. The class will be very challenging for the student without any prior boating experience. The student will learn to cruise safely in local and regional waters, as both skipper and crew, on an auxiliary sailboat of about 20 to 30 feet in length, in moderate winds and sea conditions. This course includes knowledge about gear and equipment, safety, weather, duties of skipper and crew, and seamanship. You will learn skills in boat handling under power and sail, crew overboard recovery, docking, anchoring, reefing, and heaving to. Upon completion you of this course you will be certified to bareboat charter in hundreds of locations worldwide.
We limit the class size to four students unless special arrangements have been made. This allows everyone sufficient hands on time to become confident and competent at each skill.
ASA 101 Basic Keelboat Sailing
The student will be able to skipper a sloop-rigged keelboat of approximately 20 to 27 feet in length by day in light to moderate winds (up to 15 knots) and sea conditions. You will gain knowledge of basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards. Auxiliary power operation is not required.

In this fun and interactive course you will learn sailboat basics, including sailing terminology, commands used at the helm, and how the sails move the boat forward.

Upon completion you will receive the official ASA Logbook signed by your instructor, an ASA 101 Certification Sticker, and a 90-day trial
The student will be able to skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered (inboard or outboard engine) keelboat of approximately 25 to 35 feet length by day in moderate winds (up to 20 knots) and sea conditions. You will gain knowledge of cruising sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather interpretation, safety and seamanship.

And, you must show the ability to demonstrate competencies in all knowledge and skills elements of that Standard.
Recommendations: a minimum of 24 on-water sailing hours before undertaking ASA 103

The student will be able to skipper a sloop-rigged, auxiliary powered keelboat of approximately 30 to 45 feet in length during a multi-day cruise upon inland or coastal waters in moderate to heavy winds (up to 30 knots) and sea conditions. You will gain knowledge of provisioning, galley operations, boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, routine maintenance procedures, advanced sail trim, coastal navigation including basic chart plotting and GPS operation, multiple-anchor mooring, docking, health and safety, emergency operations, weather interpretation, and dinghy/tender operation.

ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising
And, you must show the ability to demonstrate competencies in all knowledge and skills elements of those Standards.
Recommendations: ASA recommends a minimum of 80 on-water sailing hours before undertaking ASA 104.
