Travel Planning

Planning Your Adventure

For charter guests and students aboard our sailing yachts, living aboard is part of the experience. Prior to your trip, ensure you're well-prepared with essential equipment, clothing, and documents. Here's a comprehensive list to assist you in planning your journey. Additionally, consider purchasing travel insurance to safeguard your investment and ensure peace of mind throughout your adventure.

Clothing

  • You will be barefoot on board, so a pair of flip-flops or sandals are ideal for slipping on and off when going ashore.
  • If you’re into hiking, pack a pair of sneakers
  • Lots of T-shirts and shorts
  • Lightweight long pants
  • Set of warm clothes
  • Long sleeve shirts or rash guards for sun protection
  • Hat with strap for sun protection
  • A quality pair of sunglasses with a strap, preferably polarized for eye protection
  • Several swim suits
  • Depending on your custom cruising itinerary, pack one or two

 “going out” outfits

  • Pack light (seriously!) and opt for soft-sided luggage or a medium-large size duffel bag

Documents

This may go without saying, but it has happened to the best of us, so please make sure to pack:

  • Your passport
  • Proper forms of identification
  • Additional travel documents that will be needed throughout your trip
  • While boating, having cash-on-hand is essential. This will help cover everything from taxi rides upon arrival to quick purchases in any beachside gift shop and will ensure you are always prepared if paying by credit card is not an option

 Medication

  • All prescription drugs must be in correct, labeled bottles
  • Sea sickness medication — if you feel you need sea sickness medications please consult your doctor. The most effective medications, such as the Scopolamine patch are by prescription.
  • Over the counter medications such as Dramamine can also be effective but usually cause drowsiness.
  • Sun screen (reef safe), SPF 15 or above
  • Lip balm

Leave Behind

Just as important as knowing what to pack for charter is knowing what not to pack.

Avoid overpacking non-essential items like:

  • Utensils and cookware
  • GPS or other navigational tools
  • First-aid kits
  • Expensive or heirloom jewelry
  • Linens, towels, and pillows
  • Pack light!
